I finally got a stock 1050 drive to use for my Happy 1050 Upgrade. See my previous post for the saga of my original attempt:
Unfortunately, once I get the Happy upgrade installed, it doesn't work. The power light comes on but I get no movement from the drive at all; no spinning, no initial drive head squawk, just nothing. Closing the drive latch doesn't do anything either. I get the power light and that's IT.
I've checked the installation instructions many times and I know the Happy upgrade is installed in the right socket and oriented in the right way.
I can remove the Happy upgrade, reinstall the CPU and PROM chips and the drive works fine; it powers on, spins and boots when it has a disk and is plugged into my 800XL. So I'm thinking there must be something wrong with the Happy board.
Any other suggestions for Happy 1050 troubleshooting? Are bad Happy upgrades common or did I just get unlucky?
