So what's the secret for dealing with the pulsars? I can blow through the first 16 or so levels with a whole rack of 1-ups and everything's fine. Spikers? Flippers? No problem. Demon heads? No problem. Then when the pulsars show up this is what I see:

There must be something I'm missing in how to kill these things. It shouldn't be that hard to figure out, afterall the gameplay of T2K isn't that complicated. However nothing I've tried has worked. Honestly these stupid enemies pretty much drain the fun out of what I'd consider an otherwise perfect game.
