Had a haul today that included a boxed 400, a 7800 with expansion interface and 5 2600 carts I didn't already have in my 200+ collection. $40 total.
A few weeks ago I got my first 400 off eBay - for $12.50 from a local seller. It works well, but is yellowed a bit (I didn't know how much until today) and there is a chunk of plastic missing in the front between the third and fourth controller ports. No power supply, but I had one that worked with it.
This one I found today accounted for $15 of the $40 I was charged. It's in the box, with the styrofoam and a power supply. And it's like new, perfect. I don't think it's yellowed at all, inside looks like it was built yesterday - clean, no rust, fading or corrosion. And it works beautifully.
Two questions I have:
1. There is a thin barcode sticker inside the cartridge housing, on the metal. I'm guessing that's not from back in the day, probably added later by someone for some reason - am I right?
2. My first 400 has a red "16K RAM" sticker on the bottom, this new one does not. Is there likely any difference in the RAM amount? I'm guessing they're both 16K, and the one with the red sticker is older - maybe from when they came out with less than that, and to denote it had been upgraded?
Might be hidden in the serial numbers, denoting how old each is.
With red sticker has two numbers: "G 16K 281 6800" and "ww281/20"
One without a sticker has one: "491126 013"
