broken lynx

Hi guys,

just wandering if it is possible to turn on a lynx 2 without a cartridge inserted. I have bought a lynx 2 but have no games yet. I have tried to turn it on, but the power light only flickers shortly and then nothing happens. Do I need a cartridge? I hope my lynx is not broken or anything. Is it supposed to show some start screen without a cartridge?
