Lightgun experiment: Who's willing to try it?

Hello guys (m/f)

A while ago (must have been on last years Fujiama), I had this idea. Atari's light gun is reported to be very inaccurate. Other companies sold light guns that look just like "our" light gun. With two difference: They have a different color and seem to be more accurate (even when used on the same Atari!). The idea I had was: "What if these two differences are related? What if the color has something to do with accuracy?". You see, the light grey of the Atari light gun probably reflects a lot more of the light that falls into the barrel of the gun then for instance an orange or black one would. Meaning an Atari light gun would catch way more light than for instance a black gun. So what would happen to the accuracy of an Atari light gun, if we turn the inside of the barrel from light grey to black?

Well, you'd have to take the light gun apart. But the screws are behind the decals. And I don't like to damage them.

I know there are people out there, who might care less. That's why I'm asking: Is there anybody willing to do this experiment? Opening up and either paint the inside of the barrel of your light gun black (dull, not shiny!) or maybe fabricate a small black cylinder out of thick black paper which would line the inside of the barrel? Then check if the accuracy is notably better? And report about it here, with some nice pictures?

Thanks!

Sincerely

Mathy
