So I was talking to my parents recently on the phone and I mentioned in passing I was going to the eye doctor soon for my once a year checkup.
A little background, I was born in 1976. When I was 4 and starting preschool (in 1980) it was found out that I had bad eye sight and lazy eye in one eye, so I had to wear a patch for a while and then glasses from that point on, until I got LASIK done in 2000. (Best thing I ever did, BTW -- well worth it if you're considering it, just make sure you're a good candidate).
I had a Atari 2600 as a kid, but I never knew until now the reason my parents bought it for me.
My Mom mentioned that she had been told to buy one by my eye doctor back in 1980 to help to 'improve my hand-eye coordination and strengthen my good eye' and that I should play about 30-60 minutes a day.
It sure SOUNDS like something that could help, but I've never heard of this before.
Has anyone herd anything similar, or seen anything in the articles or press to support this? Or was my eye doctor getting kickbacks from Atari?
