Introduction, and doubt about framerates

First of all, I am going to introduce myself... I have been an Atari fan since I got my first console (Atari 2600) when I was a child. I loved it (and I still love it) and since those days I was really fascinated by games like River Raid (because the fact that the river never repeats). Of course, I still have that console...

I have been reading this marvelous website for years, but I have never written anything previously because... I had really nothing interesting to say.

Now I have a doubt related to the Jaguar, and I see that this is the best chance to write something here, introduce myself and begin to be part of this nice community :)

Well, some years ago I won an Xbox in a raffle, and I began to be very interested in the emulation and retro-computing world. I saw that the Xbox had lots of emulators of former consoles and a huge community of emulation fans, but I missed the Jaguar, so I made a port of the Virtual Jaguar emulator to the Xbox console. I named it "Virtual JaguarX".

At first, it was a port of an old version of Virtual Jaguar (v1.0.5) to be able to run it in the Xbox, which is not a very powerfull machine for today's standards. In later versions, I have being tweaking it and optimizing it with techniques of overclocking and so on, so that the games can be playable at a good speed, and now I'm sure that many more people in the Xbox community knows and enjoys the Jaguar. These are my two cents towards this cool console.

After this introduction of myself, here is my little doubt about the Jaguar. When emulating the Jaguar, I do overclocking of some of the different modules of it (mainly the GPU and the DSP, because they are the most resources-consuming devices) to try to achieve a correct framerate.

The problem is... how can I know what is the correct framerate for each game? Because I don't want them to run too slow, nor too fast neither. At first I thought that 50 FPS may be a good framerate, but after that, I saw that there are games that run at different framerates.

Then, I thought about comparing the framerate of Virtual JaguarX with the framerate of the Windows version of Virtual Jaguar, but it seems that this comparison is not enough accurate. After that, my next technique was comparing Virtual JaguarX "visually" with the image of a real Jaguar running... but this is really difficult to compare.

So, I was wondering... is there any information in any place about the framerate used for some games? For example, to be sure that the emulation of "Attack of the Mutant Penguins" goes at a correct speed, is there anything that I can do?

Well, that was my doubt, and any comment or suggestion will be wellcomed. And again, I'm very glad for having written finally something here :)
