I hauled my Atari 800 from its basement storage today to test it with a new Acer LCD (mixed results with Composite, have to try S-Video) and found the foam holding the cartrige cover shielding in place reduced to mostly dust. As this seems to have been a rather simple double side adhesive foam anyway, does anyone know the correct dimensions (thickness) or a (European) source for this stuff or an equivalent?
I suppose I could as well just remove the foam and put the metal cover in storage but then that greatly increases the chances of it getting lost....
And out of curiosity: Would there have been any precautions allowing to preserve the original foam or is it inevitable that the softeners in the foam evaporate (or whatever) and the foam becomes crumbly?
