Here's an interesting topic! What was you first experience of the Lynx and where did it end, if it did?
I wanted a Lynx when they first appeared, partly due to the colour screen and that it looked so cool back then. By the time I had enough money to buy one the Lynx 2 was out and I had long since forgotten about getting one due to the lower number of games for it.
When I read a review of Xenophobe (in CVG I think) and the reviewer stated it was arcade perfect this put the Lynx right back at the top of my list. I think it was the summer Terminator 2 was out at the cinema. I rushed off to Dixons and purchased a new Lynx 1 as it was reduced to £130 if I remember correctly. Got Xenophobe with it, and batteries and then went to the cinema with my cousins.
I was the only person in the cinema playing Xenophobe whilst T2 was on lol.
Had great fun that summer and for around a year playing Xenophobe. The feeling of owning a Lynx will never leave me lol. It was like I had a powerful arcade console in my hands, with voodoo technology inside it. I can remember being blown away at the colours, sound and the really tiny and thin game cards - how could they fit such master pieces on such a small card! 6 months later I was consumed with envy of a friends Game Boy, the sound was better, and it had more games. He was envy of the colour. We swapped systems and he gave me an extra £50.
Around 18 months later I did some electronics repairs for a friends business. He paid me £100 and offered me 'an old' Lynx in part payment. It came with several games, Gauntlet, Cal Games, Ishido, Chips Challenge, Gates of Zendocon, and that 3D cop game I forget the name of.
I rushed out and bought Road Blasters cheap and spent loads of time playing on the Lynx. Probably 6 months later I was out with the girl friend and walked past a game shop, I spotted the Lynx 2 brand new boxed (several) at £30, I couldn't believe it and ended up buying a Lynx 2. I also bought Xenophobe again =). And a PSU.
For probably several years they remained in storage, all mint and unloved.
I started a new job and after 6 months got talking to a guy I worked with, his grand kids had a Lynx each and he was after new buttons. I said, I can do better than that, here you go - take these, and I gave him both Lynxes boxed and mint with 10 or so games all mint.... Oh how I regret that generosity lol
Then after years of emulating I finally got the bug again to buy one off EBAY.
