Jaguar RF outputs sound, no video

Hello,

Having coveted a Jaguar for many years (ever since I played AvP on a display model in Virgin Megastores), I've recently bought one off eBay. I also bought a copy of Cybermorph in order to play on it. However, I'm not actually able to get a picture out of the Jaguar at present through the RF output and am looking for some advice.

As the Jaguar hadn't come with an RF cable, I used an old spare one I had lying around, which I connected straight to the RF modulator and into the ariel socket on the back of my Sony LCD TV. I switched the TV into analog mode, and set it to autotune. I found a signal on channel 36, but all I could get was a black screen. I then tried manually adjusting the tuning to either side of channel 36, but got nothing, just a black screen. I also tried a different RF cable, with the same result.

Thinking it might be possible my TV could not handle the Jaguar's RF signal, I dug out an old Phillips 17" CRT and connected the Jaguar to that. Switching to channel 0 on the remote (pretuned on that TV to channel 36) I again got a black screen. This time however, I did get sound, which I hadn't on the LCD (although that's possibly because I hadn't come out of the tuning menu when trying the LCD TV).

On the Phillips, I was able to start a game and fly around blind, crashing into the ground and getting the famous 'Where did you learn to fly?' speech, so the console does appear to be working in some capacity. I also swapped out the Jaguar for my SNES, connected via the same RF cable, without retuning, and got sound and video. So it would appear there's nothing wrong with the RF cable or the CRT TV.

Has anyone had this experience before? I suppose it's possible that the Jaguar has a broken RF modulator. Or possibly one with dirty contacts. This doesn't particularly bother me, as I'd much rather use an RGB Scart cable anyway, as with my other older systems, but any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.
