Hi all,
Sul Ross State University, the university I'm working for, asked me to help them set up a gaming room so that students can experience classic gaming. It's a fun project but I wanted to check in here first for advice.
What systems would you suggest? Would a modern-hardware equivalent like the Atari Flashback be sufficient? Or should I aim to track down original hardware? We're not allowed to emulate and I think the hardware and software will be initially kept in the library.
What are the best sources to pick up software and hardware? The marketplaces on Atariage? Ebay? Gamegavel?
My consoles and computer wishlist would be as follows. If anyone can suggest alternatives I'd really appreciate it.
---8 BIT era ---
Atari VCS
Atari 800XL (or related model)
Commodore 64
Vectrex
Apple IIe
Sinclair Spectrum
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
---16 BIT era ---
Commodore Amiga
Atari ST
Sega Genesis
Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)
---32-64 BIT era ---
Playstation 1 and 2
Sega Dreamcast
Atari Jaguar
Xbox
Nintendo Gamecube
Nintendo Wii
---CURRENT GENERATION ---
Xbox 360
Playstation 3
Nintendo Wii U
We're also going to get a high-powered PC so we can build up a good library of games using Steam (especially the Winter and Summer sales they have).
