I have received a Boulder Dash 2600 box that is in very nice condition, except it has a tape mark on the front of the box from where someone taped bubble-wrap to it. I'm very happy to finally own this (since I missed my opportunity originally, and was afraid I'd never have an opportunity to own one), but I'm very distressed that something like this happened to it.
I would like to try to remove the tape mark to restore this to the condition it was in before it was shipped to me, but I'd like some advice on how to best do it.
I'm considering trying to do this myself using Goo Be Gone, but I'm a bit worried that the box may react to it, or there may be oily residue left behind that I can't get off. I don't feel right about even testing it on part of the flap.
Another option I'm considering is paying a comic book restoration service (such as this one) to remove the tape mark, but I have doubts that they'd know what to do any better than I would, since the material is different than what they normally work with.
If anyone has experience or insight on how to best proceed with something like this, I would appreciate it.
