So I recently picked up a second 4-port 5200 (the one with the non-slick finish) for $5 at a yard sale that came with a couple of games, including Congo Bongo (which I always enjoyed on my C64). And while the 5200 itself didn't work (black screen only; bad ANTIC or RAM chip?), I was happy that I was able to get both the controllers cleaned up and working perfectly. The switch box also works, which is a big plus to have as a backup in case my main system's switcher ever goes bad.
Anyway, back to Congo Bongo. I pop the game in my main 5200 (4-port piano black slick finish) and try to play it. Loads up to the main screen just fine, I select 1 player and start the game just fine. The problem that became quickly apparent was that while I could move up, left, and right, I couldn't move down. This seemed odd to me, because I had tried using the same controllers to play several other games (Pac-Man, Defender, etc.), and the joysticks were registering just fine. I tried all four of my working 5200 controllers, but got the same response for each (except that on one of them, I couldn't go down OR right).
Is this a problem with Congo Bongo on the 4-port system? Or is it to do with Congo Bongo requiring a further reach of the analog controllers to register the downward control, and maybe the pots in my controllers need an adjustment? That would seem unlikely, as it affected all of my controllers. But hey, I'm open to any and all suggestions.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice or tips!
