Parallel Computing and the Atari 8-Bit

Has there ever been an attempt, or even a reason to attempt, to slave one 8-bit to another over the parallel bus?  Anyone who's finished COMPSCI knows the theoreticals of it.  The only real world examples I know of include the DEC VAX, Atari's Transputer, and of course mainframe farm cards.

I dont know much about the Atari parallel bus, but if it is as "wide open" as it appears to me to be, the slave could simply act as an address space extension to the master.  Maybe the slave would run an agent that did some address conversions or something.  Perhaps a smart device between the two would "be" the agent.

Another possible model is some way that one Atari would generate half of the video frame and another the other.  This would be more cooperative that master/slave.  A sync between the two could share state data, decisions, inut, etc.  Maybe both run the same software that is parallel aware.

Maybe it's time for a multi-slot bus extension and OS cart that inits the machine and makes a RAM card, video card, sound card, storage available from an address space standpoint.

Or maybe it all simply ceases to be an Atari and therefore not interesting - or at least nostalgic.  I don't know.  Just theorizing.
