new reboot/jagware release for jaguar: qUaKe

Here's a new release from GGN/reboot, ZeroSquare/cvsd and Tyrant.

Impatient? Here's a demo ROM:

Attached File  hires.zip   1.26MB   21 downloads

For those who want to know what they're actually feeding to their Jaguars, qUaKe is a builder of ROMS containing high res 640x480 BPEG-packed images - use your JagPad to flip through the images and amaze yourself and your friends Posted Image

FrediFredo requested something like this while he and GGN were working on another project together, so GGN visited jagware.org, took Zero's high res code, took Tyrants edited Atari setup code, did a little Jaguar coding of his own (unheard of!) and put all this together for FF and for you.

You can make ROMs of 1, 2 4 and 6Mb in size and once you're set up it's as simple as sticking a load of images in a folder (they don't even have to be the correct size or colour depth, it'll handle that for you) then double click the exe - full details on the Reboot website and in the included doc. Expect updates in the not too distant future and feel free to hack away at it to suit your own needs - it's released under the WTFPL. There's no hard-coded title screen or anything, that wouldn't be as much fun.

The results are very impressive on modern LCD screens etc., especially if they perform magic to filter and smooth, it can look stunning. On old CRT screens you'll have to put up with interlace flicker.

Here's a ghettocam of the demo ROM I made:

It contains a title picture, (I think) 17 640x480 images of the PC game Quake and 17 more versions of these in the way they might appear if they were actually shots of Quake running on a Jaguar with fat pixels.
