Atari 1050 Bottom Spindle
My Atari 1050 gives Boot Error when I try to use it. The voltages on test points seem ok and the head moves up and down. I suspected the motor belt, but that looks ok and seems tight too. The one issue I'm suspicious of is that the bottom spindle is quite stiff to move, it does rotate freely through 360 degrees, but, it takes some effort and doesn't spin if pushed without the belt.
My question is, how easily should the bottom spindle spin?
PS. It's a Tandon mechanism.
Thanks in advance.
AVGCart
Hello,
I'm currently working on a atari multicart (similar in function to ultimate cart) in order to pick up some new skills (vhdl, pcb routing, ...) and it's probably finally in a state when i can send a few pieces into the world for testing and feedback
It supports .car files up to 1MB (the most common bankswitching types should be supported, i'll be adding new ones as i get hands on some test files for them) and .xex files.
It's housed in a "commodore" shell so it doesn't fit 1200XL (but i've been told it can be used when removed from the shell) and cover on 400/800 can't be closed (shell too tall).
Cart can selfupdate from the sd card so unless something goes terribly wrong there's no need for special hw to update its firmware.
Here's a short video showing the basic functionality
I have currently 3 extra carts built, if anyone is interested, they're available for 25EUR each (+5EUR p&p).
Feel free to ask anything and any feedback is welcome.
Bill Rehbock Audio Interview - Producer of Doom, Atari Karts & More!
Dear all
After I had the ultimate pleasure of talking with James Purple Hampton, I had the great honour of chatting with another Atari Jaguar legend - Bill Rehbock!
Bill is probably best known for being the producer on some of the Jags best titles - these include Doom, Super Burnout, Atari Karts and Wolfenstein 3D. He also talks about his work on the Nuon console, Tempest 3000 and much more!
He shares some great stories about working at Atari, his honest views on the true power of the Jag and the people he worked with! Please see all the links below to listen to this true legend:

Games that could play / be fun on a DDR pad?
I was thinking of modding a Playstation DDR pad for use on the 2600 / sega genesis. The question is what games do you think would be the most playable / fun, I will use your suggestions when I am testing. The ones I think so far would be fun are the maze games like Ms. Pacman, and Maze Craze. Some other ones will be Tapper, keystone kapers, freeway and frogger. What are your thoughts and suggestions?
4 Way joysticks compatible with 7800?
Pac-Man games just get frustrating they can't be controlled as precise as they were intended
Really hoping there's something out there so I can enjoy my Super Pac-Man & Ms. Pac-Man more, and one day the Baby-Pacman I just saw the post about
Getting my 5200 to boot.... what am I missing?
I popped the top on a 4-port 5200 unit; it will power on, hits the splash screen, then just either sits blank or flips to random colors / lines..
Someone's been in it before, as the screws required coaxing to get them out, and the RF shield was bent up as if it'd already been removed before.
It has PacMan, Centipede, and Space Invaders carts, as well as 2 controllers and the trakball unit.
Example below.
It seems the Space Invaders cart will be more colorful, and centipede has an animated bit where the game name slides off the screen.
I have already tried swapping RAM chips to see if the failure mode will change with no luck, as well as scrubbing cart slot contacts with ammonia.
before I go too far and ruin things, I'd rather ask if there may be a problem with the system ROM etc.
Why do AtGames Atari 2600 systems use 5200 Space Invaders?
Does anyone know why the AtGames Atari systems use the 5200 version of Space Invaders, instead of the 2600 Space Invaders? All the other games on the system appear to be the 2600 versions.
Atari 2600 - Asterix Prototype
Hi - I bought this more than 15 years ago. Never opened until today.
The only thing that I new that it was a PAL version since when I plugged it, the screen rolled (and works great in PAL/NTSC TVs).
So, I went ahead and open it to find out if it was a true prototype or not. Below are the pics, and some questions:
(1) Is these a real prototype
(2) Anyone has more background on this release bits. Anyone is keeping record of this?
(3) How rare is this cart? And what is the price given that is a PAL version?
Thanks
Atari CO18187 5200 power supplies volt output
So what do people think this could be
It's an odd story in a lot of ways but suggests that an 8 bit system was going to be launched in UK with a built in cassette player.
Almost certainly nothing but intrigued to hear peoples thoughts.
"FRYING" and the glitching effects in 2600 games.
This was done by either flicking you 2600 power switch on and off rapidly or sometimes merely inserting or removing a cartridge with the power on, weird glitches and effects caused by power fluctuations. I was reminded of this after just watching this video by no swear gamer on youtube.
Who knows how made the sound effects of ALLEY CAT?
Hi everyone,
I want to ask for help, I am very impressed as Bill Williams (✞RIP) programmed in atari the characteristic sounds of his great game ALLEY CAT (Barking, meowing, dog and cat fight, kisses and complaints) and I want learn how to make them. They are very similar to the ones I've heard on professional synthesizers (Korg Legacy and MINIAK Akai).
In advance, I appreciate your guidance very much.
How to identify flashback consoles and power supply
Hi there!
I just got an used Atari Flashback without its power supply, early today I got a power supply for Flashback consoles but I have doubts about to use both.
The power supply is a KU28-9-200D model and output 9v DC 200mA and the console has a Batch Code: D10508 it's the only number or model number on the bottom label.
I'm not sure if is a good idea plug the power supply to the console because this console says under plug 5V I don't want to plug it and blow away this poor thingy.
So Is it save to use them? If is not Which Flashback console uses the power supply? And What power supply should I use with this console? If someone has the power supply model I'll appreciate to know it.
Thank you guys, Have a happy!
Finally got it working! Now I need case screws...
You all may remember me breaking my 5200 when trying to add the power mod a few weeks back. Finally figured out that I damaged one of the capacitors on the board when I was working inside of it - replaced that and reinstalled the power mod, and it all works great! While I was in there, I removed the soldered in RF cable and added an RCA jack and patch cable to the built-in RCA jack so that I can plug a more traditional RF switch into the back.
Powered it on, tested it out, and it all works fine! Now for my question: What size screws does the case take? I kind of lost them during all the time I spent working on this thing.
HSC Season 15 Round 8: Blaster and Atari Blast!
Blaster with bonus Atari Blast (cart only)
This is a prototype but from my limited play I thought WOW this is one we should play here!
Atari Blast!
Astounding graphics and a decent game too!
We don't usually play games that need extra RAM or are Cart only but this will be a bonus game: Cart runs on standard XL/XE - Emulator users set RAM to 1088K - anyone who can't run this game can play an alternative shooter that is similar to one of the games you get to pick, try and find something unusual/you have not played before/much
Play on "Normal" difficulty and Start from the beginning each time? - the game is short so you will get through it before too long. If you find it too hard here's a link to level codes on normal difficulty - you cann complete each one separately.
Details here on the GTIA Blast thread (this was the working title), you can post there for any help to get it working!

See/read more about the game on Atariteca (site has language translation)
This should be a nice round with the old and the new. Have fun, Join in, and if you haven't got Atari Blast! see if someone on the forum will create a cartridge for you - or even get setup yourself to make one - you could also then have Space Harrier (both carts run on Atari XL/xE with standard memory)
Scoring well make up the scoring as we go.
Round closes in two weeks on the Sunday at 10am UK time my fingers tell me it's the 13th but they often lie
Zoo Keeper
I never understood why this was never converted to arrantly no system at all BITD....it is such a fun game and it doesn't look to be too hard to convert ?
800XL Toggle Switch Question
Hi all. New to the Atari Computer area of collecting, and have a question. I recently came into a lot of various systems, and included were 3 800XL's. One of the systems has a toggle switch on the back near the serial port. Was this an after-market modification, and what is it's purpose?
Any help in answering is appreciated.
Pengo arcade tune?
I think Atari Pengo misses original arcade tune.
